Sharing the Urban Promise Fundraiser –

YOU’RE INVITED! PLEASE JOIN US FOR AN AUCTION, LIVE ART AND PERFORMANCES BY OUR STREETLEADERS!

You’ll enjoy delectable finger foods, hear great music and take home awesome prizes from the raffle and auction. Each ticket is $30. All proceeds and donations go toward our StreetLeader Program.

Our goal is to raise $24,000. That translates into one year of part time employment for 15 StreetLeaders.

We know that the stories you will hear from young leaders emerging from Toronto Community Housing neighbourhoods across the city will encourage and inspire you. And we hope you’ll join these StreetLeaders on their journey to rise above society’s expectations of them, into young men and women of character and faith.

Anyone is welcome, but space is limited so please purchase your tickets ahead of time.

Know you are unable to attend, but still want to help? Donate and help us reach our goal.

What’s a StreetLeader?

We hire high school aged youth from the communities we serve to work in after school program and summer camp. StreetLeaders are coached to serve others in their work, with an emphasis on leadership development and spiritual growth. Through this we continue to disciple, mentor and care for our ‘kids’ as they venture into young adulthood.

For many youth this is their first job, an opportunity to open their own bank account and begin building a resume. They’re expected to be on time for work and fulfill responsibilities and tasks, just like any part time job.

But it’s also an opportunity to share the love of Jesus with them, to build into them and equip them as they tackle the challenge of their high school years.

There are a multitude of negative stereotypes attached to teenagers today, and especially so for teenagers in Toronto Community Housing neighbourhoods. This urban setting bears the obvious scars of gangs, drugs, fatherless homes, academic underachievement and the crushing weight of generational poverty.

Our vision is a generation of young leaders who love Jesus and serve their community. Can you see it?

Mission Update

unnamedPentecost 2016—Let Your Light Shine

Missionaries around the world are truly embodying the command found in Isaiah 60: “Arise, shine” in a place that is often seen as spiritually-dark. This “arise and shine” command  prompts
Hailey (read her story here) and each one of us as God’s people to live our lives in a way that is different from that of our world—a world filled with the darkness of sin.

As we prepare for a season of Pentecost, CRWM will be featuring a number of ways that missionaries around the world are shining their lights for Christ through your support for Christian Reformed World Missions—including in the story found below!

Your congregation is allowing Christ’s light to shine around the world through your partnership with World Missions. You can celebrate the ways that your church is helping people know the Light of the World with new materials from CRWM:

  • A bulletin insert and cover that features the “Let it Shine” theme
  • A children’s bulletin that helps children explore this theme
  • A video that features God’s light shining through the CRC around the world
  • A litany based on Isaiah 60 and John 8
  • A feature article in May 2016’s Banner magazine that highlights three missionaries and people they serve alongside who are living in a variety of “dark” contexts

All of these materials will be uploaded atcrwm.org/Pentecost as they become available. Churches that have indicated interest in using the materials will receive them in April.
